Louise Coyle welcomed Dianne Wilson, Deputy Secretary of the Independent Reporting Commission of the Irish Secretariat and Joint Secretaries Chris Atkinson and Nicholas Murphy to the NIRWN offices on Thursday 30th June.
The IRC came from the Fresh Start Agreement, which was established by international treaty and corresponding legislation in the UK and Ireland. The Commission reports and makes recommendations annually on;
- Progress towards ending continuing paramilitary activity connected with NI; and
- Implementation of the relevant measures of the Government of Ireland, the Government of the United Kingdom, and the NI Executive, including the Executive’s strategy.
Dianne and her colleagues were keen to discuss NIRWN’s work with rural women and more specifically the impact of paramilitaries on women in NI.
