Following the launch of Women’s Regional Consortium & Ulster Law Clinic research last year on the impact of the Cost of Living Crisis on Women in NI it was found that some women were missing out on access to the NHS Healthy Start Scheme. NHS Healthy Start is a Government scheme that helps you to buy healthy food and milk and get free vitamin supplements if you are on a low income. Northern Ireland has the lowest awareness levels of the NHS Healthy Start Scheme.
Along with Ulster University the Women’s Regional Consortium has produced a short video on the NHS Healthy Start Scheme to try and raise awareness about the Scheme and make sure that no one is missing out. The video is supported by the Department of Health and is available here:
Please continue to share this video as far as possible to try and encourage uptake of this important Scheme. Other resources about NHS Healthy Start in NI are available here including a leaflet and posters: https://www.health-ni.gov.uk/publications/healthy-start-communication-materials
Special thanks to the brilliant women from Atlas Women’s Centre (Rachel, Lauren & Rebecca) who provided the voices for the video, to Hannah Miller who produced the beautiful illustrations, to Dan Farley Design and to Ulster University Applied Social & Policy Sciences who provided the funding to do this work.
