Consultation on strengthening Statutory Sick Pay
This is a Department for Work and Pensions consultation on Statutory Sick Pay which is asking about the percentage replacement rate for those earning below the current rate of Statutory Sick Pay. Through the Employment Rights Bill, which was introduced in GB, the government has committed to ensure Statutory Sick Pay is strengthened for those who need it most, by removing the existing requirements to serve waiting days and extending eligibility to those earning below the Lower Earnings Limit.
Siobhán has made a Consortium response calling for the percentage rate of earnings to be set at no less than 100% of pay for workers earning below the current earnings limit. We have supported the Women’s Budget Group argument that this would help to address deep-rooted inequalities and provide meaningful support to vulnerable workers many of whom will be women.
The response is available on the Consortium website here.
Consultation on the draft Impact Assessments for the draft Programme for Government 2024-2027
Alongside the draft Programme for Government a number of impact assessments have been drafted for consultation including an equality impact assessment, rural needs impact assessment and a child rights impact assessment.
Siobhán has made a Consortium response to the impact assessments highlighting a number of inadequacies in the equality impact assessment and Rural Needs Assessment particularly around the consideration of data and identification of impacts.
