Siobhán continues to work as part of the Working Group for the Cliff Edge Coalition on extending and strengthening the welfare mitigations package in Northern Ireland. Following the announcement of the extension of the existing mitigations legislation for Northern Ireland for 3 years the working group are continuing to monitor the progress of the legislation through the Assembly. The Welfare Supplementary Payments (Amendment) Bill that will extend the mitigation payments until 2025 has now passed its Second Stage in the Northern Ireland Assembly.
Following the announcement of the Review of the Mitigations, Siobhán and other working groups members have met with the Independent Panel. Siobhán and a smaller working group have also prepared and submitted a more detailed proposal on a potential new mitigation around the Universal Credit five-week wait.
